A vital foundation for success in coaching is confidentiality. Coaches assure their clients of complete confidentiality, with the following exceptions:
- having committed, or the intent to commit, criminal acts - disclosure to the police,
- the intent to harm themselves - disclosure to the Children's Aid Society or its equivalent in the jurisdiction,
- getting severely bullied, harassed or abused - disclosure to the Children's Aid Society or its equivalent in the jurisdiction.
These exceptions and subsequent disclosures are explained to clients up front so there are no surprises.
